HISTORY

The UNICAMP's Center for Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering (CBMEG) was pioneer in Molecular Biology in Brazil. It was created in December 1986 by a group of professors from the Departments of Genetics of the Biology Institute (IB) and Medical Genetics of the School of Medical Sciences (FCM), both from UNICAMP..

Originally, CBMEG was structured to house Molecular Biology laboratories with research focused on four main sub-areas of Genetics: Plant, Microorganism, Animal and Human. During the more than thirty years of existence, the individual labs have expanded their fields of action and today CBMEG also has the Systems Biology area and the Advanced Second Generation Biofuels (A2G) Lab
